While that’s all well and good, every company has different values and practices that they implement. On top of that, the ideal practices that further organizational culture and business goals also shift.

The 9-to-5 workdays are slowly becoming a bother for people. For many, these are a source of demotivation and emotionally draining. Instead, businesses are starting to make the shift by having more flexible shifts, opening up the idea of remote working or tapping into gig-based work.

Businesses need to adapt to changes as new technology is introduced and more people are entering into the workforce with new morals, values and ideals. These are the businesses that are thriving and how all of that happens is through learning.

Stemming from the previous point, you can begin to see that employees play a vital role to the business. To further clarify, what employees bring to the table will also play a critical role in determining a company’s overall culture. Everything from their values and work ethic to what they are learning right now can steer that person and the business in a certain direction - even if it’s slight.

One thing that is growing in popularity is hackathons, which encourage companies across countries to share ideas and promote ideas and even cross-functional skills. Other alternatives are leveraging social media, looking for online courses, or guiding employees towards a certain set of skills through mentorship.

As mentioned above, work culture is linked to performance and so when employees are learning, many have indicated doing this helps in the overall performance of a business. If you are looking to improve the overall flow of business, it’s worth considering putting together a competent learning program.

  • If an employee is untrained in the area, it’ll take them twice as long to perform a task on their own compared to receiving tuition to train in that skill.
  • Every hour of training done reduces desk support time by roughly a fourth of an hour.
  • Every hour of training also reduces reviewing and fixing errors by one hour.
  • Training also boosts the overall performance of an employee by 5.75 hours.

Implementing a consistent training schedule in these kinds of situations is well worth it. It doesn’t always have to be online courses. As mentioned, other alternatives can be coaching or using social media in a productive way.

It Makes Employees Want To Work

The final reason I’ll discuss that makes learning transform an organizational culture is that it encourages employees to work. Going back to the classic work culture of working 9-to-5, that culture doesn’t work any longer. You can see that from the fact that employees are demotivated, exhausted, and many of them hate going to work.

Since that organizational culture doesn’t work any longer, it’s important that you change it for the better.

When learning is introduced into the picture, this creates an opportunity for an employee to begin to enjoy their profession once more and learn some new and valuable skills. It also gives a sign to the employee that they are valuable and that the company is investing in their betterment in some way.

This is all crucial as an employee is the heart of the company. If you treat your heart with kindness, love, and aim to improve it, it’s only going to pay dividends later.
